loved watching him floating towards the corner flag either side and dinking over a pinpoint cross to the head of our striker that always evaded the defenders. I have never seen someone cross a ball with such accuracy when in full flight.

Watched him from 73 to 84. My favourite ever West Ham player, Bonzo second, but for very different reasons.
I loved watching him floating towards the corner flag either side and dinking over a pinpoint cross to the head of our striker that always evaded the defenders. I have never seen someone cross a ball with such accuracy when in full flight.

I remember when he got booked and the whole of upton park started booing his every touch - Brooking could hardly play for laughing - - such a great player. from the hammers I watched regularly, only Devonshire to equal him. .

Trevor Brooking is still getting me into trouble.
I still try to let the ball do the work like he did, and the skill totally evades me, like it has since the seventies.

jimbo 2 is right. Clough tried to buy him but Sir Trev wouldn't go iirc. I remember Clough taking it badly and saying that "Brooking floats like a butterfly and stings like one too" and went on to say that under him he'd sting like a bee....

Yea..Brooking was an ideal Clough player..cultured player and well behaved on and off the pitch.
Clough was big on on field behaviour.

Always admired the man so one of the few real regrets I have in life is never going to see him play when I had the chance.
Anyway, I also lost interest when he, Bonds and Lyall took their bows.

I played a one two with the great man and scored. A treat for our school team winning the league.
He even said Crosby would have liked my top corner finish,,,I recall the training session was a a few days after his goal v Hungary...

Brooking was a long time before I going to games, but I created this Youtube video as I loved seeing his goals.

In 53 years of going down the Boleyn there are two players who have given me more pleasure than any others. Trevor Brooking, and paulo Di Canio. And Gino wins.

Many years ago we were in the second division and playing at home to Derby who were considered at the time to be our main rivals for the title if you like. Anyway even though we were second division, the game was radio 2 commentary game and Peter Jones described Trevs goal as sublime.
